Frequently asked
Does Mayva send my data anywhere?
+
Local mode sends nothing — your data lives on your machine. When you opt into hosted plans, only the focused prompt for the current turn is sent to Anthropic. Mayva's memory (markdown profile, SQLite, embeddings) stays local. Telemetry is zero in local mode.
Why local-first?
+
Two reasons. Cost — local means there's no SaaS layer to amortize. And the data we're talking about — health signals, tasks, journal entries, the people in your life — is exactly the data nobody should be uploading by default.
Can I use this without a wearable?
+
Yes. The morning brief works without health signals — it just skips the recovery-band logic. WHOOP, Apple Watch, Oura, and Garmin are all supported on Pro; if you have none, Mayva still plans your day from calendar + tasks + goals.
How does voice work? Is it cloud?
+
Local STT. Whisper.cpp by default with openai-whisper and mlx-whisper as fallbacks. Intent classification is a fast Claude Haiku call; the action runs against the local DB. Single-shot per invocation — no wake-word, no continuous listening.
Will I get charged for Claude usage?
+
On Free, you bring your own Anthropic key — costs go directly to your Anthropic account. On Personal/Pro, LLM tokens are bundled at cost. The morning brief and drift report are budgeted under 3k tokens; the voice intent call is sub-1k.
Can I customize the agent?
+
Yes — Mayva is open source. The prompts are strings in files. The memory is markdown you can edit. The dashboard reads Zod schemas, so as long as the shape stays compatible, the UI keeps working.
